Obituary

Addie Lee Rivers was born in Gainesville, Florida to the parents of Charlie Rivers and Annie Dell Smith. She peacefully passed away on June 1, 2025. Addie was preceded in death by Charlie Rivers, Annie Dell Smith, and son Baron Rivers.

Addie Rivers was educated in the Duval public schools of Jacksonville and graduated from New Stanton High School. She was the first African American employed by Florida National Bank in the operational functions of the bank. Shortly after that, her position was Executive Officer in the customer service department.

Addie Rivers leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Sheila Martineau (Robert), and Stephanie Howard; sisters, Altonese Jamison (Gainesville, Florida), Glorida Cromwell, (Gainesville, Florida), and Gladys Burnett (Seattle, Washington); brother Jackie Wilbur Smith (Gainesville, Florida), and daughter in law Kimberly Rivers; grandchildren, Kandace Rivers, Alexander Foster (Yacencia), Brandice Howard, Anthony Howard, Baron Zachary Rivers, Baron Nicholas Rivers, and Kimberly Gabriella Rivers; great grandchildren, Tiffanie, Israel, Kylie Rose, Kayden, and Elijah; grand dogs, Pebbles, and Craig; and a host of other family members, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ms. Rivers may be viewed on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Carthage Chapel Funeral Home, from 4:00 p.m. Until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 Logan Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32204.
