Charles was known for his ability to impact the lives of every person he met by remaining down to earth and often parting wisdom he gained through his life experiences. He was a man of "straight talk no chaser!" He kept it real.

Charles was born March 1, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to Anna Belle Gibson and Willie Roy Humphrey. After the death of his father, his mother moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she married George Adams, Sr. Charles became the youngest of ten children in a blended family. Eight predeceased him.

In 1954 he married Bessie Lee Bolden in Shelby County, Tennessee when they were just 16 years old. They divorced in 1978 and remarried in 2007. In 2015, Bessie pre-deceased Charles.

During their marriage, they welcomed two children: a son, Alphonso Adams [Jessica Nicole Adams Holmon and Joshua Paul Adams] and a daughter, Terry (Adams) Bushell [Chancellor Barrington Bushell] whom he leaves to honor his legacy together with: one sister (Mary Curry of Memphis, TN) and one brother (George Adams, Jr. of Stone Mountain, GA) six nephews: Chester Lee Campbell, Melvin Campbell, Roosevelt Campbell, Tyrone Curry, Lloyd Curry, James Wesley Curry, three nieces: Mary Curry II, Deborah Kay Curry, Elfrieda Boyland and a host of other relatives and friends. He never met a stranger!

Mr. Charles may be viewed on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Carthage Chapel from 3:00 p.m. Until 5:00 p.m.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 19, 2025, at Carthage Chapel Funeral Home, Inc., and the interment will be in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
