Harvey Cofer, III was born on September 26, 1953, in Forsyth, Georgia to the late Harvey Cofer Jr. and Bertha Linsey Cofer, who preceded him in death .At an early age, Harvey dedicated his life to Christ and became a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Forsyth, Georgia Harvey received his education in Monroe County, Georgia and graduated from Mary Persons High School, class of 1971. He later attended Fort Valley State University where he was affectionately known as “TYME.”During his time there he became well known as the hype man for the football team by energizing the crowd with his spirited rendition of “The Hump." Harvey enlisted in the United States Army and later served in the Army National Guard. After 24 years of honorable military service, he retired with pride, having faithfully served his country. Following his military career, Harvey was employed by Warner Robins Air Force Base and later by the City of Macon, where he faithfully served until illness made it necessary for him to leave his position. Through out his career, he earned the respect of colleagues and friends for his strong work ethic .On September 27, 2015, Harvey was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Linda Thomas Cofer. Together they shared a loving and devoted marriage filled with friendship, laughter, and cherished memo-ries .Harvey was a loving father to Harlan T. Cofer and Harvetta S. Cofer, and caring stepfather to Wanda D. Hill and Michael Colemand (Courtney).His family was one of his greatest joys. Harvey also served his community as an umpire for the Macon-Bibb Baseball Association. He was proudly affiliated with Paul Lawrence Dunbar Lodge No. 219 of the Prince Hall Masons in Jacksonville. Florida. Whether singing R&B or gospel music, he had an extraordinary ability to captivate audiences and bring joy to those around him. His passion for music remained constant throughout his life. Harvey and his band, The Hometown Boys were honored with induction into the “Telling Our Story Museum in Forsyth, Georgia, in recognition of their lasting contributions to the community’s musical heritage. Harvey possessed a warm, outgoing spirit and truly never met a stranger .He was loved by many. His infectious smile and genuine love for people made him unforgettable to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Cofer Jr. and Bertha Lindsey Cofer; his brother Malcolm Colfer and stepbrothers, Freddie Hunt and Eugene Hunt; and his sisters Pastor Jeanette C. Holmes-Vann, Clara Shannon, and Denise. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife Linda Cofer; his children, Harlan T. Cofer and Harvetta S. Cofer; his stepchildren, Wanda D.Hill and Michael Colemond (Courtney); ten grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild; his brother, Walter Cofer and stepbrother, Charles Hunter(Theresa); his sisters, Evelyn C. Hart, Durendo Harris, Carolyn Wright, and Reverend Patricia Smith, sister-in law Carol Smith; stepsisters Delores Thomas, and Linda Pope (Ricky); along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and friendship .Harvey’s life was marked by music, laughter, and love. Though he has de-parted from this earthly life, his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
