Linwood Earl Cohen was born to Simuel Victor Cohen, Sr, and Pearl Kennedy Cohen on April 6, 1935, in Whiteoak, Georgia. He was educated in the Duval County Public School system, before enlisting in the United States Army where he served his country proudly, He then married his wife of 43 years Elouise Bullard Cohen.
Linwood was a business savant. An entrepreneur, creating jobs and opportunities for the African American community of Jacksonville. He was an active member of Zion Temple First Born Church, under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Herbert Cohen, where he was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.
Linwood was preceded in death by his parents, Simuel and Victor Cohen, Sr. and Pearl Kennedy Cohen; his wife, Elouise Bullard Cohen; siblings, Naomi Cohen Turner, and Samuel Victor Cohen, Jr.; children, Leonard Cohen, Jr., Pearl Cohen Lamkin, Michael White, and Seymour Cohen.
He is survived by his children who will cherish his memory: Dr. Joyce Maureen Cohen, Pastor Mascareen Cohen, Seabrin K. Cohen, Malvina Wright (James), grandchildren, Joy Cohen, Milo Valentine, Shirley Valentine, Cecil Smart, Hannah Cohen, Bernada Brisher, Charles Tolbert, Jr., and Ronnette Gordon; siblings, Emily Cohen Crum, Bishop Herbert Cohen (Francine Cohen), Alfredia Cohen Tripp; sister -in-law Barbra Cohen; nephew who was like a son, Steve Cohen (Michelle); nieces and nephews whom he raised as his own: Janice Toro, Alfonson Alberta, Jimmy Alberta, Daisy Washington and Mattie Alberta; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Cohen may be viewed on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Greater Hope Ministries, 925 Edgewood Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32208, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Greater Hope Ministries, 925 Edgewood Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32208, and the interment will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
