Obituary: Ruth Lee Brown

With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Ruth Lee Brown announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 90.

Ruth was born on April 3, 1935, in York, South Carolina, to the late Robert and Carrie B. Floyd. She was the beloved wife of the late Rudolph Brown and a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community.

A proud graduate of Lincoln Academy in Bessemer City, North Carolina, Ruth ventured to New York City in her early twenties, beginning a journey defined by faith, compassion, and resilience. She later made Jacksonville her home, where she faithfully served as a member of Great Harvest Missionary Baptist Church.

Ruth dedicated many years to her work at Jewish Home Healthcare before retiring. But her greatest calling was always to her family and to those in need. Ruth was a nurturer by nature—always opening her heart and home to others. She offered shelter, food, comfort, and unwavering love to countless individuals and families over the years.

Ruth's life was marked by grace, strength, and an enduring generosity of spirit. She lived as an example of unconditional love, and her impact will be felt for generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Carrie B. Floyd; her husband, Rudolph Brown; daughters Belinda and Sonia; granddaughter Clarissa; and all seven of her siblings.

Ruth leaves behind a loving legacy through her children: Wanda (Anthony) Owens, Sherlyn Floyd, Toni (Aaron) Curtis, Carolyn Floyd, Rudy Floyd, and Randy Floyd. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren Danielle(Maurice), Trivon, Shawn(Kate), Jameela, Dale, Shakira, Jarrell, Treyvon(Shina), Andrea, Jannell, Kimberly, Javel, Jazel, Zanisha(Jakecco), Jakel, Jamel, Jaheem, and Rudy Jr. She is survived by Sister-in-Laws Dorthy Martin and Tina Cherry of Brooklyn New York. She is also survived by a host of Nieces, Nephews, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchild each of whom carries a piece of her in their hearts.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Pastor Lowe and the Great Harvest Missionary Baptist Church for their compassion, prayers, and steadfast support.

Though Ruth will be deeply missed, her light continues to shine in the lives she touched.
